Text

Edjet uses the native font rendering of your browser and operating system. And because of that, text looks always accurate.

You can control font, text size, color, align, position, size, rotation, scale, skew and other text effects.

Adding text

To add a text element click on Add element button on the left side of the screen and then click Text.

Styling text

When you select text element, the Inspector show you all the properties that apply to whole text box.

You can change font, size and color of the whole text.

To change how the whole text is aligned use left, center, right or justify options.

To change how the whole text is aligned vertically in a text box, use top, middle or bottom options.

To change other properties of a whole text box, adjust a padding, transparency, or other properties.

Editing text

To activate text editing just double click on text element.

To select part of the text use mouse or place a cursor ans use keyboard Shift + arrows.

To select all text within active text box, use keyboard shortcut Ctrl + A.

To delete selected text use Delete or Backspace keys.

To copy and paste selected text use keyboard shortcuts Ctrl + C and Ctrl + V.

To cut and paste selected text use keyboard shortcuts Ctrl + X and Ctrl + V.

You can also select a text and drag it by mouse to new location.

Formatting text

While editing text, you can apply specific formatting like Bold, Italic, Underline, Striketrough, Text Color and Background color.

To apply text formatting, select a text you want to format and click on appropriate button in a toolbar.

Removing text formatting

To remove text formatting:

  1. Double click on text element to activate text editing.
  2. Select text you want to clear formatting from.
  3. Use Clear Formatting button in the toolbar.
  4. Click Close button in toolbar to end text editing.

Adding bulleted list

To insert bulleted list:

  1. Double click on text element to activate text editing.
  2. Select text you want to be a bulleted list.
  3. Click the Insert/Remove Bulleted list button.
  4. Click Close button in toolbar to end text editing.

Removing bulleted list

To remove a bulleted list:

  1. Double click on text element to activate text editing.
  2. Select text in list you want to remove.
  3. Click on Insert/Remove Bulleted list button in toolbar.
  4. Click Close button in toolbar to end text editing.

Adding numbered list

To insert numbered list:

  1. Double click on text element to activate text editing.
  2. Select text you want to be a numbered list.
  3. Click the Insert/Remove Numbered list button.
  4. Click Close button in toolbar to end text editing.

Removing numbered list

To remove a numbered list:

  1. Double click on text element to activate text editing.
  2. Select text in list you want to remove.
  3. Click on Insert/Remove Numbered list button in toolbar.
  4. Click Close button in toolbar to end text editing.

Changing color of a part of text

You can change Text Color or Background color of a part of the text:

  1. Double click on text element to activate text editing.
  2. Select a text you want to change color or Background Color.
  3. Click button Text Color or Background Color in a toolbar
  4. Pick a color form a pallet.
  5. Click Close button in toolbar to end text editing.

Note: There is a known issue in Firefox, when a pallet is expanded and you click anywhere outside, the Editor will crash.

Adding text link to website or document

You can add a text hyperlink to open a web address or a document:

  1. Double click on text element to activate text editing.
  2. Select a text you want to be a hyperlink.
  3. Click Link in a toolbar.
  4. Enter a web address into URL input.
  5. To open a web address in a new browser window (recommended), click on Target tab.
  6. From list of options choose “New Window (_blank)”.
  7. Click OK
  8. Click Close button in toolbar to end text editing.

Opening a link in the same frame

If you want to open a web or document in the current frame:

  1. Double click on text element to activate text editing.
  2. Select a text you want to be a link.
  3. Click Link in a toolbar.
  4. Enter a web address into URL input.
  5. Click OK
  6. Click Close button in toolbar to end text editing.

Keep in mind: To open address in the current frame, the source has to be served over HTTPS and you should test if it’s working as intended. If not, the link has to be opened in a new window.

Adding a text link with email address

You can add a text link with email to address:

  1. Double click on text element to activate text editing.
  2. Select a text you want to be a link.
  3. Click Link in a toolbar.
  4. Change Link Type to “E-mail”.
  5. Enter an email address into input.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Click Close button in toolbar to end text editing.

Keep in mind: When user click on link with email address, the browser will try to open a default email client with a new message to be sent. If however there is no client registered to do that, nothing will happened and user has to copy the email address and paste it manually.

Modifying text hyperlink

To modify a text hyperlink:

  1. Double click on text element to activate text editing.
  2. Click on hyperlink you want to modify.
  3. Click on Link button in toolbar.
  4. Update Link as you wish.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Click Close button in toolbar to end text editing.

Removing text hyperlink

To remove a text hyperlink:

  1. Double click on text element to activate text editing.
  2. Click on hyperlink you want to remove.
  3. Click Unlink button in toolbar.
  4. Click Close button in toolbar to end text editing.

Text hyperlink style limitations

The text hyperlinks are having a browser default look which can be controlled in a limited way using text inline formatting.

Inserting special character

To insert special character:

  1. Double click on text element to activate text editing.
  2. Place cursor where you want a character to be inserted.
  3. Click on Insert Special Character button in toolbar.
  4. Click character you want to insert.
  5. Click Close button in toolbar to end text editing.

Pasting text from other applications

You can copy text using Ctrl + C from a Word document, website or any other application and paste it into a text box when editing the text using Ctrl + V.

The pasted text is cleared to contain only basic formatting like bold, italic and links.

Pasting text from other applications without formatting

You can copy text using Ctrl + C from a Word document, website or any other application and paste it into a text box when editing the text using Ctrl + Shift + V.

Keep in mind: If a pasted text still contain some formatting, you can paste it first into a Notepad or other text editor that removes the formatting and then paste it to Edjet text box.

Ending text editing

When you are satisfied with text, you can end text editing by clicking to a Close (X) button in a toolbar, or click anywhere outside the text box.
